You must obey the Gospel of Jesus Christ in order to be born again in Jesus Christ.
| Who must obey the Gospel? 2 Thessalonians 1:4-10 4 "Therefore, among God's churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring. 5 All this is evidence that God's judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. 6 God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. 8 He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power 10 on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you." |
| Well, what does 'Gospel' mean? Gospel means "Good News" deriving from the Old English "god-spell," translated from Greek åõáããÝëéïí (euangelion) used in the New Testament. |
| Then what is the Gospel? 1 Corinthians 15:1-5 1 "Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of FIRST IMPORTANCE: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve." |
| OK, how does one obey the Gospel? I mean, how does one obey the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ? Romans 6:3-7 3 "Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. 5 If we have been united with Him like this in His death, we will certainly also be united with Him in His resurrection. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin — 7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin." |
| Hebrews 11:16 "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him." |
HEAR ..... [or be otherwise informed of] the Gospel
| Romans 10:17 "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ." |
BELIEVE ..... the Gospel & CONFESS ..... Jesus as Lord
| Romans 10:9 "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." |
REPENT ..... of all your sins
| Luke 13:3 "I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish." |
Then ..... Be BURIED in WATER BAPTISM
| John 3:3-5 In reply Jesus declared, 3 "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." 4 "How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!" 5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit." |
| Acts 2:38 3 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." |
| Titus 3:3-6 3 "At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit 6 whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior ..." |
| 1 Peter 3:18-22 18 For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, 19 through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison 20 who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also — not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand —with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him." |
| Mark 16:15-16 15 Jesus said to them,"Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." |
If one does not believe the Good News, What point is there in obeying the Good News? That person, as the Scripture teaches, is condemned! |
realize this:
| 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 9 "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." |
| What initially makes us no longer wicked; what initially makes us no longer guilty of being sexually immoral, or an idolater, or an adulterer, or a male/female prostitute, or a homosexual offender, or a thief, or a greedy person, or an alcoholic, or a slanderer, or a swindler, or any other sinful type is the fact that we've repented of our sins and have been washed - buried in water baptism in the name of Jesus! |
realize this:
| Galatians 3:26-27 26 "You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ." |
| When you are baptized (buried) into Christ you become clothed with or in Christ. If you are not baptized into Christ you do NOT have Him on ... you are naked, still in your sins, unclothed, unsaved, unforgiven. |
realize this:
| Colossians 2:11-12
11 "In Him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, 12 having been buried with Him in baptism and raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead." |
| When you are baptized (buried) with or into Christ you undergo a circumcision. It is not the circumcision done by a physician, the cutting away of foreskin from the penis as it was for the male Israelites. It is not even the removal of dirt from the physical body [1 Peter 3:21]. No, it is the cutting away of sin from your soul done by Christ while you are buried in the water; and being raised up out of the water afterward through faith in and the pledge of a good conscience toward God who raised Jesus Christ up from the dead when He was lying buried in rock within the tomb. If you do not receive this circumcision your sin remains; you are unsaved. |
realize this:
| Revelation 1:5 "To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood ..." |
Therefore, the water of baptism represents His blood where we receive forgiveness of our sins. It is His blood that cleanses us, yet this cleansing takes place in the water! |
(IN CHRIST JESUS)
UNTIL YOUR DEATH!
... Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life. |
